What is the total cost of getting my LTC?

Just taking the LTC Class does not get you your license to carry. You will also have to pay for your:

  • Application Fee to Texas DPS- $40,

  • Fingerprints through Identigo- $10

  • Class Cost (varies depending on which class you take)

  • Range Fee- $20

  • if needed Gun Rental-$12, Ammo-$25bx (50ct)

  • Range Prices subject to change and are out of our control

Do I need to know how to shoot to attend a class?

  • If you are attending the Texas License to Carry Only class YES! You must be able to demonstrate proficiency at the range to complete the class the LTC only class does not cover basics or how to shoot.

  • If you do not know how to shoot, load or handle your firearm or if you would like a refresher before the LTC proficiency demonstration please consider signing up for our Beginners LTC Combo Class, we will teach you everything there including live fire before you take the LTC Proficiency demonstration all in the same class.

Where are the classes held?

  • All range portions will be held at Top Gun Range.

  • Larger LTC classes will be held at SpringHill Suites Westchase. (BW8 at Harwin)

  • Smaller Classes, Beginners Classes and most private classes are held at my home in the Katy/ Cinco Ranch area.

  • Large enough private classes may be held at your location provided certain requirements are met. Call for details.

I see the terms LTC and CHL, whats the difference?

Originally it was called a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) When the state passed open carry the name was changed to License to Carry (LTC). They are one in the same but many folks still use the term CHL and it may be confusing to them. The LTC is good for both open and concealed carry.

I took the LTC Online Class, what next?

The online LTC class is just the classroom portion of the LTC. You will then need to demonstrate proficiency at the range. This will be a separate class and fee. Once both are completed successfully you will get your certificate to send to the state.
